Lupino was one of the first of the new wave of "cool" Barcelona restaurants. The waitstaff used to look like models dressed in black, there was a DJ, and the decor resembled a catwalk. Several years on, only the latter remains true. Lupino has softened around the edges and has been around long enough to learn that one cannot live by style alone. The food is a mixture of Mediterranean, French, Creole, and North African cousine. Reservations recommended on weekends.

On a quiet night, this subdued little wood-panelled cocktail bar has something of an Edward Hopper feel. The long mahogany counter has been burnished by the same well-clad elbows and patrolled by the same laconic barman for many years, and Gimlet is considered something of a classic.
